Things we’ve noticed so far…..

People say hello and really want to hear how you are and often want to stop and chat. Eddy works at the building we are currently living in and has become a friend. It started with daily hellos that turned to chatting. He doesn’t mind our slow Spanish and shares all kinds of interesting things with us.

The cheek kiss as a greeting is real. I kind of love it (although it feels a little strange to snap photos of people saying hello to each other, so no pics). This is Alan, the jefe at a local restaurant. Tess and I see him every day when we walk down to the beach at sunset. He has taken a shine to her because she reminds him of his daughter. We stop and chat every time we pass by.

There are rope bridges across the roads so wildlife can pass.

Anything you might want comes in a bag….hummus, mayonnaise, beans, sour cream etc.

Life is everywhere!

The ants are big and quick. We’ve been living amicably with these buggers for two months. They don’t seem to bite and don’t congregate on food the way they do in Oregon. They just cruise around the entire place on walls and most other surfaces.

After school snacks look a little different. Every Wednesday there is a feria (or market) at the school. On this day the girls opted for churros after soccer and Dave and I tried a caldosa. Basically a snipped open bag of chips with a cup of ceviche dumped in. You mix it up and eat it with a spoon. Yummy!

Marathons start at 4 am here to beat the heat. This one happened right outside our door. This was the first man to finish.

Road signs have a different flair.

Simple equals delicious!!!! These patacones (mashed green plantains that are fried until crispy) were served with beans, cheese and pico de gallo and were so yummy.

The eggs are so fresh. This was a breakfast I had on a farm so the lettuce was extra fresh as well.
