Día de la Independencia

I got to go on a field trip today! The teachers surprised us. We thought we would have to stay in class while the Independence Day parades and festivities happened all morning, but they took us to Potrero, the next town over to watch the local parade.

Independence Day is celebrated on September 15th. Costa Rica, along with the rest of Central America, was granted independence from Spain in 1821.

Me and some of my fellow Spanish language students posing with Yossbenia, one of the staff members at CPI.

Local school children performed traditional dances near the town square.

It was really hot so we opted for ice cream at 9:30 in the morning!

  1. Now that is a school – one who knows more education may occur outside the classroom. I am still envious but not for the heat. We have pre-autumn temperatures and brilliant skies. It is my favorite time of year.
